1000 households in Armenia receive humanitarian aid to survive hardships brought by COVID-19
With the grant from the European Union in Armenia, World Vision provides humanitarian aid comprising food and hygiene items to 1000 households in difficult circumstances in Tavush Marz of Armenia.
World Vision Armenia together with Tavush Regional Administration selected families where the need is especially acute - vulnerable and large families, lonely elderly, as well as people with disabilities.
“Together with the Tavush Regional Administration, World Vision’s social workers selected the families that appeared in especially difficult circumstances. Most of them are families living in extreme poverty”, says Angela Atoyan, World Vision Armenia’s Tavush Programme Manager, “Each of these families was hardly providing their daily food even before the emergency state, but today, the issue is but vital, and it will get harder and harder in the nearest future”, - continues Angela.
Due to the state of emergency established in Armenia since 16th of March, many people in capital Yerevan, as well as in the regions of the country, are left without their daily income as there are movement restrictions and many jobs are just closed.
It is especially difficult for children and their families living in extreme poverty. These families’ income is collected from odd jobs or state family benefit. Moreover, families living in extreme poverty do not usually save and in difficult circumstances as this, are reliant on humanitarian assistance.
“Before the emergency state, we were somehow providing for children’s food, as my husband was working on the fields and receiving payment per each day he worked. But during the restrictions, no one was able to go out to work, and we remained without daily income”, says Anoush Ghazaryan, 30. Anoush is a mother of two young children, and her family lives in one of the communities of bordering Noyemberyan area in Tavush Region of Armenia.
The support provided includes food and hygiene items for an estimated two-week period designated for each member of the family, “This is a huge support for us. I will be able to put food on the table until this situation is over”, says Anoush.
