A hidden hero: Abdou's contribution towards preventing COVID-19 infection in Dosso Region
Since the occurrence of the first COVID-19 positive case in Niger on March 19 2020, World Vision has accompanied Niger State in the fight against preventing the virus through its COVER (COVID-19 Emergency Response). Considering the extent of the territory and the lockdown, World Vision chose mobile telephony as one of the approaches to disseminate COVID-19 prevention message in Niger.
In partnership with VIAMO Organization, calls were made over a month to 1,727community actors in 4 local languages. This campaign targeted community health workers, children 18 years and older who are registered under World Vision's sponsorship programme, community volunteers, and leaders of savings groups, kids club and child-friendly spaces. At the end of the awareness campaign, out of 1,727 numbers targeted 1,370 actors answered the calls.
It is worth noting that Dosso Region had the largest number of beneficiaries reached by the calls and Community Health Workers were mostly affected.Through this sensitisation, community actors like Abdou (featured in the video) were equipped with the necessary knowledge and are raising awareness in their communities.
