“ENOUGH" campaign against child hunger launched by World Vision Mauritania

ENOUGH
Launch of ENOUGH campaign
Tuesday, July 2, 2024

Child malnutrition is widespread in the country, with many children deprived of adequate nutrition. Figures reveal a worrying reality: 25% of children under 5 suffer from stunted growth and 22.4% are malnourished.

The causes are many: regional crises, the effects of Covid-19, economic inequalities, climatic upheavals. In this context, World Vision Mauritania has launched the "ENOUGH" campaign to overcome child hunger and malnutrition, as part of a global initiative.

For a better understanding of children's voices

GUESTSThe ENOUGH Campaign is built on several fundamental pillars: firstly, listening to and taking into account children's voices in government policies; access to nutritious food in times of crisis; and mobilising sufficient resources.

By building on existing activities on the field, such as protection, water, sanitation and hygiene, and community education, this initiative aims to change the reality of Mauritanian children.

A hopeful launch

BOOTH

The launch ceremony was attended by nearly 200 people, including government officials, members of civil society, children benefiting from World Vision's work, and representatives from the diplomatic community and UN agencies. Their words underscored the urgent need for action to ensure that every child has access to healthy food to ensure healthy growth.

NATIONAL DIRECTOR

Alex Withney, National Director of World Vision Mauritania, thanked the Mauritanian government for its continued support and stressed the urgency of the situation.

As well as inspiring speeches, the day provided an opportunity to discover and support local initiatives for healthy, sustainable food. Stalls showcasing local agricultural products and UN partners such as FAO and WFP highlighted joint efforts to provide a better future for Mauritania's children.

Integration of objectives and interventions

World Vision's "ENOUGH" campaign in Mauritania aligns with IMPACT ENOUGH's ambitious goals to improve child nutrition by the end of fiscal year 2026. Here's how the campaign is integrating these goals:
•    Policy and budgetary changes: The "ENOUGH" campaign supports policy frameworks that aim to eradicate child hunger and malnutrition, while working with ministries and donors to ensure adequate budgets.
•    Advocacy: By mobilising funds and raising awareness in the local community, the "ENOUGH" campaign advocacy conducts activities in support of child nutrition initiatives.
•    Beneficiaries and treatment of acute malnutrition: The campaign aims to provide tailored nutrition programs to 500,000 children each year, while ensuring the treatment of wasting for 25,000 children through partnerships with organisations such as WORLD VISION, HEALTH, ILANS, HEA, NECR and WASH.
•    Impact on vulnerable children: By mobilising resources and focusing on the most vulnerable children, the "ENOUGH" campaign aims to directly impact on six million children by the end of 2026, in line with ENOUGH's objectives.
