World Vision supports 1,500 internally displaced persons in Northern Ethiopia
World Vision has distributed WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) Emergency Shelter/Non-Food Items (ES/NFI) items (jerry cans, sanitary materials, soaps, etc.) to 1,500 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have settled in Dabat and Debark towns of North Gonder Zone.
The organisation provided this support through a project run by the SWAN humanitarian consortium, drawn from four International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs); Save the Children, World Vision, Action Against Hunger, and Norwegian Refugee Council.
Sisay Mulu and her family from Dima town in the eastern Tselemt District have been displaced since May 2021. She says, “We are in grave need of humanitarian assistance. I thank World Vision for the provision of WASH ES/NFI items and for the multi-purpose cash support.”
“During the conflict, my house was totally looted. I faced physical and moral damages. We are now living in severe conditions and in need of materials and food items from non-governmental organisations and individual donors”, said Mizan Gebremedhin, another IDP from Adarkay district.
World Vision has repurposed its Tigray Crisis Response into a Northern Ethiopia Crisis Response (NECR), expanding its operations into Amhara and Afar regions. The new response plan requires US$125 million to benefit a targeted 3 million conflict-affected people in Tigray, Amhara, and Afar regions. So far, World Vision has reached 1,525,541 people (449,729 boys and 337,754 girls).
