Partnerships that transform lives; National Director’s visit to Northern Ghana
World Vision Ghana's National Director, Laura Del Valle, has embarked on a week-long field visit to the Upper East Region of Ghana. The visit was specifically to interact with Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) partner communities in the Bawku West District. She also paid a courtesy call on the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), partners of World Vision Ghana, to discuss the progress and various strategies being put in place to support the displaced people at the Tarikrom Refugee Reception Centre in Bawku, Upper East Region.
Laura took the opportunity to discuss the measures that have been put in place to support the Refugee Centres and to explain the need to provide basic needs to help refugees, especially the most vulnerable children who have been displaced due to unfortunate events in their home countries.
As part of the interventions, there was a need to discuss the progress of World Vision Ghana's contribution to the construction of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities at the reception centre and the temporary site for the refugees being hosted. The WASH facilities, which include private toilets and hand-washing facilities with the support of our partners, have provided access to safe water. Displaced people and children need a hygienic environment to prevent outbreaks of illness and disease in the centre.
World Vision Ghana and the World Food Programme (WFP) have partnered around a shared vision of a hunger-free world for Ghana's most vulnerable children, families and communities. Together, World Vision and WFP provide assistance to people affected by disaster to save lives, improve health and education, and empower vulnerable communities to become self-reliant.
World Vision and UNHCR have been partners for over a decade, working across sectors in some of the world's most complex environments. We work together at response and regional levels, and our global policy work includes the development/implementation of the Global Compact on Refugees to realise the rights and needs of displaced children.
We look forward to strengthening our partnership with more organisations working to transform the lives of the most vulnerable children, their families and communities.
