World Vision and Ghana Journalists Association partner to promote child protection and humanitarian development work
Monday, 22nd March 2021 – World Vision and the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) have entered into a partnership agreement to address key issues regarding Child Protection, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Health, Education and Food Security in Ghana. A brief signing ceremony which was held at World Vision's headquarters, was attended by key players within the global institution and the media outlet. The collaboration seeks to address humanitarian development work amongst vulnerable groups, especially children, with a focus on neglect, violence, exploitation and abuse. The partnership also aims to engage the organisation, the media and the public to hold public discourse on child well-being and effect change within the country. Additionally, the institutions involved seek to share institutional resources, programmes and projects, actions, information, logistics, values and influence in a manner that would be mutually beneficial.
During the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect, National Director for World Vision in Ghana, Dickens Thunde, voiced his support for the collaboration in harnessing some of the most salient issues affecting vulnerable children within the country.
“Together, we constitute a more formidable force and voice to see to it that strengthened child protection and participation laws, policies and systems exist and are working efficiently here in our country. World Vision recognises the media and media practitioners as major allies in our quest to ensure that children are protected from abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence.”
World Vision and the GJA have a long-standing relationship where they have previously collaborated on child protection and WASH projects. In this new agreement, both organisations will particularly be seeking to address child protection issues in education, health, nutrition and food security. Affail Monney, President of the GJA, views this renewed relationship with World Vision as a pivotal point of exchange in development issues in Ghana.
“The GJA sees the signing of this MoU as a step further to deepen, strengthen and expand the collaboration with World Vision. What is most important to us is the capacity-building of our members across the country and we are committed to sustaining this collaboration to champion the cause of children and their well-being.”
The term of this MoU is for a period of two years from the effective date of this agreement. World Vision will also sign subsequent agreements with mainstream media organisations such as: Citi Newsroom, Daily Graphic, EIB Network, GBC, Ghana News Agency, Multimedia Group Adom FM, Multimedia Group Joy News and UTV.
