World Vision Ghana's Agotime-Ziope Area Programme unveiled a disability-friendly bio-digester household toilet in Agorhokpo to mark World Toilet Day 2024. This was done in partnership with the Agotime-Ziope District Assembly and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council.
This year's global campaign theme, 'Toilet - A Place for Peace', was echoed throughout the event, highlighting the critical role of sanitation in promoting health and dignity. A key highlight of the event was the celebration of five communities achieving Open Defecation Free (ODF) status. These communities were honoured with ODF certificates, signposts and essential sanitation tools, including wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes and gloves.
In addition, eleven outstanding natural leaders and five field officers were recognised for their commitment to promoting sanitation and hygiene practices in their communities.
In an innovative public-private partnership, World Vision Ghana, the Agotime-Ziope District Assembly and Centrich Enterprise unveiled a disability-friendly bio-digester household toilet for a vulnerable woman in Agorhokpo. This facility, connected to the community water system, provides reliable access to water and reinforces the theme of providing peace of mind when nature calls.
The commemoration served as both a celebration and a rallying cry for stakeholders and community members to address the significant gaps in basic sanitation in the district. Stakeholders emphasised the importance of these efforts in improving the well-being of children and ensuring a healthier future for all.
The collaborative spirit and innovative approaches showcased at the event underscore the power of partnerships to transform lives and advance sustainable sanitation solutions.
