World Vision Ghana Provides Supplies to Fight Cholera

In an effort to curb the spread of cholera in Ghana, World Vision Ghana has donated essential supplies to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to support the country’s public health response. The donation, which took place at the GHS Headquarters in Accra, includes 600 boxes containing 160,000 packets of Procter & Gamble (P&G) water purifiers, 450 Veronica hand washing buckets, water storage buckets, and other vital logistics.
Speaking at the event, World Vision Ghana's National Director, Jean-Claude Mukadi, emphasised the organisation’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s health system and ensuring access to clean water and sanitation.
“This gesture will serve over 500 households and purify about 160,000 litres of water,” Jean-Claude stated, highlighting the urgent need for safe drinking water to prevent further outbreaks.
World Vision Ghana has a long-standing collaboration with the Ghana Health Service in implementing various health and sanitation programs, including maternal and child healthcare, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) in health facilities, and emergency responses to public health crises. The organisation has already distributed over 100,000 water purifiers to regions affected by the cholera outbreak and is now expanding its support to areas beyond its direct operational reach.
In addition to the donation, World Vision Ghana called on the government to grant tax exemptions on Gift-in-Kind items received from donors to improve healthcare. “We believe this will motivate our partners to commit more resources to support the health system,” the National Director stated.
The Ghana Health Service expressed its gratitude for the donation and assured that the items would be used effectively to aid in the fight against cholera and other public health challenges.
World Vision Ghana’s intervention is part of its broader humanitarian efforts, which have reached over 500,000 people across the country through health, nutrition, and emergency response programs.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Minister of Health, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Director General of the Service, commended World Vision Ghana for the gesture and assured that he would ensure that the supplies were used for the intended purpose.
