Emergency Response Project in Southern Angola Ensures Better Conditions for Access to Water
Access to water remains a challenge in several rural communities in the Southern region of Angola. Drastically affected by the impacts of the El Niño climatic phenomenon, many families are facing extreme difficulties as many of the water springs that previously supplied them have dried up due to drought or are being used by animals, further compromising water quality.
As part of the Emergency Drought Response Project in Southern Angola, efforts have been focused on rehabilitating and constructing water points in the province of Huíla, one of the most affected by climate change in the country. Under the coordination of the NGO People in Need, World Vision Angola recently delivered 90 water collection and conservation kits in Tchiwawe Village, Chibia Municipality. These kits benefited 90 families, totaling approximately 540 individuals including children, youth, and adults.
This intervention, funded by StartFund and coordinated by PeopleinNeed, and implemented locally by World Vision Angola, aims to mitigate the anticipated impacts of drought and ensure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water for vulnerable households. A total of 4,100 households, corresponding to 24,600 individuals in selected communities, will benefit from this project, with a focus on the most vulnerable groups such as women, children, and persons with disabilities.
