Sierra Leone Hunger Response Cash Transfer
Cash transfer programming leverages cash, vouchers, mobile payments and/or e-payments to meet the food needs of the beneficiaries in circumstances where food is locally available for purchase. When used appropriately, cash transfers enhance dignity, choice, and diet diversity and boost the local economy.
The global COVID-19 pandemic increased vulnerabilities in several communities with the aftershock resulting in poor harvest and crop yields due to climate change as well as its rippling effect on household consumption. World Vision as part of its hunger response in the North and East of Sierra Leone distributed cash to over 1,784 households using Orange Mobile company’s mobile money platform. This video captured the cash transfer in the North to 566 households.
