In recent years, education in Lebanon has faced significant disruptions due to political challenges, the COVID-19 pandemic, and most importantly the ongoing economic crisis which led to frequent teachers' strikes. To address the challenges resulting from an interrupted education, World Vision Lebanon, with funding from the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund (LHF) and in partnership with Hadatha as a sub-implementing partner, is providing retention sessions for the most vulnerable boys and girls in North of Lebanon.

The 162 sessions are designed to assist 800 children who need help with their studies and learning. 15-year-old Rand, for example, a girl who faced numerous challenges at school believes that the retention classes have become a beacon of hope for her. "This class was the highlight of my year. I struggled with math, but after attending these sessions, and with the help of Ms. Sarab, who taught me new methods that are much simpler, I'm now improving and getting better grades, which makes me really happy," Rand shares. She also values the supportive atmosphere and the freedom of expression she feels at the center.  “we can freely express and discuss our thoughts without worrying”.

Similarly, Mohamad, 12, is grateful for this initiative as it gave him hope for his future. "I'm glad I'm better at biology now. I used to struggle a lot in school, but after attending these sessions, I regained my self-confidence and realized I can do well in biology," says Mohamad. He is also happy to have made new friends through the program. "I've made new friends here, my circle is expanding, and that makes me happy."

Rand and Mohamad are just two of the 800 children who are benefiting from this project. Each child involved in the program faces unique challenges in school, but through these sessions, they are all significantly enhancing their skills. These programs not only improve academic performance but also offer a safe space for personal growth and learning.

By providing targeted support and a nurturing environment, these initiatives are making a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable children, helping them overcome educational obstacles and build a brighter future.
