Life before S4T: struggling to survive

Before this activity began in her village, Mollel Samba struggled to make ends meet. To meet her family's basic needs, she turned to selling doughnuts and other small businesses. However, her income was still insufficient to meet her children's needs. Despite her best efforts, she lacked the resources to pursue her true passion: sewing, which for her remained a distant and unattainable dream.

An unexpected opportunity: the loan that changed everything

World Vision's introduction of savings groups changed her life forever. Mollel saw it as a dream opportunity: "I joined the group with other community members. Soon after, I took out a loan of 6,000 ouguiyas, which enabled me to buy a sewing machine, and people started bringing me their fabrics to sew for them," she recalls. "With this business, I can take better care of my children, especially for their school snacks and school supplies," she explains. She has also been able to cover the cost of registering their national identity documents.

From sewing profits to solar energy: improving the family's life

Three months later, with the profits generated from her sewing business, Mollel was able to go even further. She invested in a solar panel for her son, as there is no electricity in the locality. This has enabled him to set up a mobile phone charging business, and generate income.

Building community bonds: how S4T strengthened our village

The S4T programme has also strengthened community ties. "He has forged an invaluable network of solidarity within his community. Every week, we get together. We meet every week. Everyone is committed to improving the daily lives of their children. This bond that unites us is simply admirable," enthuses Mollel.

From water scarcity to easy access: World Vision’s impact on Ateichane's daily life

What's more, World Vision's intervention doesn't stop at the savings groups. "A few months ago, a borehole was installed in our community. This was a great relief for us, as we used to have to walk for miles to find water. Now that we have access to drinking water, alhamdoulilah, I have more time to sew and take care of my family," she concludes gratefully.

A lasting impact: how S4T is shaping a brighter future for families
