World Vision staff in northern Mozambique say they are prepared and happy after attending a training in Security Awareness in National Theatres. Speaking about the three-day training, Saina Goveia, District Programme Manager, said “this is an initiative aiming to equip us to better prepare and respond to different security scenarios.” Goveia added that the issue of security is now of paramount importance in any humanitarian organisation’s profile and those at its service.

Participant in the training and Health and Nutrition Technical Coordinator, Maria Mahara, says that “I am prepared to cope with stress and to support the volunteers with whom we work in health in coping with the stress caused by unrest situations”.

Maria adds that “it's an added risk not to know how to proceed in this or that situation. Now I feel prepared to act in the best way in situations of this kind”.

Meanwhile, Leandro Marcos, Livelihoods Technical Coordinator, says it was “very good to take part in this training, because security is now everyone's business, a global issue. I'm going to be more intentional about security, both at an individual and organisational level”.

Memba District Programme was established in 2019 and its achievements in the past three years, 2021-2023, are, inter alia, 12.500 people with access safe drinking water, as a result of construction of 17 boreholes and four water supply systems; 2.000 children with birth registration; and 1.202 pregnant women and caregivers with children 0-23 months who received counselling in nutrition and prevention of infectious diseases.
