The boy had a dream
“I have seen World Vision Myanmar’s intervention in my community since childhood and I notice the impact of World Vision Myanmar’s works on the communities, youth and children. Since then, I had a dream that if I had a chance, I want to work with World Vision Myanmar and for the communities and children,” said Jaw, 26 years old former World Vision Myanmar sponsored child, is a Child Protection Case Officer at Nawnghkio Area Programme, World Vision Myanmar. Jaw has five family members, he is the youngest son of his family. He graduated from Mandalay University and majored in Physics. Jaw’s father was a driver and his mother sewed clothes to support the family.
In 2004, Jaw became a registered child in the World Vision Myanmar Child Sponsorship programme. Since then, Jaw participated in World Vision Myanmar’s child’s forum, awareness-raising training, Child Rights Convention Day and sponsorship activities. Writing letters and drawing pictures for his sponsor was one of Jaw’s favourite activities when he was a sponsored child. “I have a chance to see my sponsor photos through World Vision’s staff. That was one of the unforgettable moments of my life,” said by Jaw. Being a registered child for 8 years in World Vision he dropped out of the programme as his father became a World Vision staff at the Mandalay office.
After Jaw finished high school in 2014, he was again involved in World Vision Myanmar programmes. But this time he was involved as a volunteer. He supported World Vision Myanmar by doing translation works, conducting surveys, data entry etc. His journey with World Vision Myanmar continues, he became a World Vision Myanmar staff in 2021. At first, he worked as a Development Field Officer at the Pathein Gyi Area Programme but later he moved to the Nawnghkio Area Programme as a Child Protection Case Officer. As a World Vision Myanmar staff, he received capacity-building training which enhanced his skill sets such as interpersonal skills, facilitation skills, problem-solving skills, etc.
Jaw loves working with World Vision Myanmar because of the organisation's core values, warm working environment and the work for the communities. Jaw said, “As a Child Protection Case Officer, I have some memorable moments. I could successfully close cases and when I monitored the case after two months, the condition of the child and family were improved. That was one of the milestones for me as a World Vision Myanmar Child Protection Case Officer.” Jaw will continue to work in the Child Protection sector with World Vision Myanmar because he wants to support the development of children in the communities.
