Loukiatou, a Malian housewife with three children, has experienced first-hand the ravages of malnutrition. Her two-year-old daughter, Habiba  stared death in the face, but is now fully recovered, thanks to World Vision.

The mother of six, a boy and five girls, remains eternally grateful to World Vision. Support received through World Vision Canada to the health facility within Mali’s Madougou village, presented her baby with a new lease of life.

She remembers the tough times when she took a sickly Habiba who was emaciated, to the local health centre. The distance from her house to the health facility was eight hundred metres. At this medical institution, Habiba was rightly diagnosed with malnutrition.

" For weeks, my child Habiba was really sick. She was very skinny and was not eating properly,” she recollects. She adds that this is now in the past, as her daughter has fully recovered.

She recalls the dark days as being fraught with fear for the survival of the child, coupled with the possibility of death.

Loukiatou, who thought her child would die, says that she had lost all hope. However, the tide changed for the better. Her child was properly attended to free of charge at the health facility, with plumpy soup, donated by World Vision.

Loukiatou, who now has peace of mind, has ensured Habiba’s siblings all attend school.  She has not kept the good counsel she received to herself, but liberally shares with other women, the benefits of good nutrition that she learned first-hand from the health centre.

She says she is extremely happy that her child is not only completely healed, but actively plays with other children, as she waits to join school.

“ I am thankful to World Vision for supporting poor people and children. May God Almighty give World Vision a long life so that we come out of ignorance and poverty,” she concludes.
