Rebuilding Hope After the Earthquake

On March 28, a powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar, devastating entire communities within moments. Homes crumbled. Schools collapsed. Safe water and food supplies were cut off. In the wake of the destruction, thousands of children and families were left vulnerable, afraid, and unsure of what would come next.

Among the hardest hit were women, girls, and children - already at risk, now facing even greater challenges. Without shelter, access to clean water, or secure spaces, they were exposed to illness, food insecurity, and emotional trauma.

World Vision Myanmar moved quickly. Within days of the disaster, emergency response teams were on the ground, bringing hope where despair had taken hold.

To prevent the spread of disease, World Vision launched life-saving WASH interventions, including the distribution of water purification kits and drinking water. Now, families can safely drink, cook, and clean without fear of contamination, relieving a major burden, especially for women and girls.

Essential food supplies were distributed to ensure children and families could meet their daily nutritional needs. For many children, this meant their first proper meal in days, restoring energy, smiles, and strength for what comes next

Jointly partnering with WFP, World Vision provided multipurpose cash assistance, giving families the power to choose what they needed most, whether it's food, medicine, or materials to repair their homes. This flexible support allows affected families to rebuild with dignity and self-reliance.

Amid the chaos, World Vision established Child-Friendly Spaces - vibrant, supportive environments where children can learn, play, and simply be children again. Here, trained facilitators help children process their experiences, offering psychosocial support and emotional care.

To protect children’s right to education, World Vision set up temporary learning centers and reading spaces. Despite the rubble around them, children gather to read stories, join group activities, and continue their studies—keeping their dreams alive, even in uncertain times.
Emergency shelter kits, hygiene items, and dignity packs gave displaced families a sense of comfort and security. For girls and women, access to sanitary supplies has helped restore privacy and dignity in crowded temporary shelters.

With compassion, coordination, and deep commitment, World Vision continues to walk alongside the affected communities—helping children and families rebuild their lives and restore their hope, one step at a time.
