Governance for Local Development Plus (GoLD+) launched in Senegal
The NGOs that are members of the Governance for Local Development Plus (GoLD+) consortium met in Dakar from December 2 to 5, 2024, to discuss the requirements and standards for its implementation. This is a crucial step before the program begins, ensuring that all stakeholders involved in its rollout are aligned.
Participants reviewed standards relating to finance, contracts, procurement of goods and services, monitoring and evaluation, gender and social inclusion, communication, and the relationships among the various entities involved in this four-year programme funded by USAID.
This programme serves as a significant lever for improving local governance in Senegal, noted Samba, USAID's GoLD+ focal point. According to the National Director of World Vision in Senegal, Evariste Habiyambere, “The GoLD+ project represents a unique opportunity to enhance our impact on the communities we serve and to ensure a harmonious integration of development efforts.”
GoLD+ Chief of Party, Karl Jean-Louis, highlighted the importance of synergy for the success of its activities.
Strengthening Local Governance
In implementing this programme, World Vision Senegal and consortium members benefit from the support of World Vision USA.
GoLD+ aims to strengthen the capacity of local governments to mobilise resources and provide public services that are high-quality, accessible, and equitable for citizens. Spanning four years (July 15, 2024, to July 14, 2028), the programme will operate in six regions: Kolda, Sédhiou, Kédougou, Tambacounda, Ziguinchor, and Dakar.
In addition to World Vision Senegal, the programme includes the following organisations: Enda Ecopop; Study, Research, and Development Support Group (GERAD); Senegalese Federation of Associations of Persons with Disabilities (FSAPH); Union of Community and Associative Radios of Senegal (URAC); COMDev Africa, and the Senegalese Women's Council(COSEF).
