Early Struggles and an Unattainable Dream

Before this activity began in her village, Mollel struggled to make ends meet. To provide for her family's essentials, she devoted herself to selling doughnuts and other small businesses. However, her income was still insufficient to meet her children's needs. Despite all her efforts, she lacked the resources to pursue her true passion: sewing, which for her was a distant and unattainable dream.

A Life-Changing Opportunity: Access to Credit

With the implementation of savings groups by World Vision, her life changed completely. Mollel saw it as a dream opportunity: "I joined the group with other community members. Soon after, I took out a loan of 6,000 ouguiyas, which enabled me to buy a sewing machine, and people started bringing me their fabrics so I could sew for them," she recalls. "With this business, I can take better care of my children, especially for their school snacks and school supplies," she explains. She has also been able to manage the costs involved in registering their national identity documents.

Investments and Community Development

Three months later, with the profits generated by her sewing business, Mollel was able to go even further. She invested in a solar panel for her son, as there is no electricity in the locality. This enabled him to set up a phone recharging business, and generate income.

Strengthening Community Bonds

The S4T program has also strengthened community ties. "He has forged an invaluable network of solidarity within his community. "Every week, we get together. Everyone gets involved to improve their children's daily lives. This bond that unites us is simply admirable," enthuses Mollel.

Improved Living Conditions thanks to World Vision's Intervention

What's more, World Vision's intervention hasn't stopped with the savings groups. "A few months ago, a borehole was installed in our locality. This has been a great relief to us, as we used to have to walk for miles to find water. Now that we have access to drinking water, alhamdoulilah, I have more time to sew and look after my family," she concludes gratefully.

An Inspiring Testimony of Transformation

Mollel Samba's story is a vibrant testimony to the transformations possible thanks to initiatives like S4T. By supporting mothers like her and encouraging mutual aid within communities, World Vision is contributing to a better future for families and children in Mauritania.
