My reflections about COP28 | Nomin
Hi I am Nomin from Mongolia and I am 17 years old. I am super excited to have been selected to participate in the COP28 dialogue as one of the youth ambassadors. COP28 is global platform for addressing the climate crisis. At one of the World Vision events I was inspired to address issues on climate change. I am passionate about conducting activities to combat climate change and hope to contribute to the well-being of nature and the environment. There are several projects that I have initiated in my community, such as planting trees, establishing a waste centre, and raising awareness among my peers. I find encouragement in the support of both people and children who stand with us during advocacy activities aimed at influencing positive change and mitigating negative impacts on our environment.
At COP28, I am hoping to share the challenges that children face due to climate change. It is both a pleasure and a responsibility to represent the concerns of numerous children. Therefore, I am committed to being active and resilient in sharing the challenges that children face due to climate change.
I believe that children's voices matter in a platform like COP28, because they can offer valuable insights and solutions. Despite the perception of children as vulnerable, we possess the potential to contribute significantly to development. Children can emerge as strong community activists, showcasing our resilience and capacity for positive change.
Many teenagers, like me, actively engage in activities to combat climate change, doing their best with the resources available. I am eager to hear specific promises from decision-makers that will directly benefit and empower children in their efforts to address climate change.
I draw inspiration from other leaders who have advocated for social causes, such as Nasan, the Head of the Youth Council in my community, and Malala, a courageous girl from Pakistan who fought for girls' education. I am also a silver medallist of the World Championship Control Line Model Aircraft.
I am hopeful that by attending COP28, I can make a difference in the future of my country and the world. I am looking forward to engaging in discussions and negotiations with other participants and experts and learning from their experiences. I sincerely hope that governments around the world will take new initiatives to phase out outdated power generation technologies and reduce carbon emissions.
