World Vision Ghana provides access to portable drinking water for the people of Nkwanta Cluster
Accessibility to safe drinking water is a fundamental human right since it is essential to preserving healthy livelihoods and the basic dignity of humans. Despite the fact that water covers three quarters of the planet, it is nevertheless considered a limited resource in this world because only 1% of useable clean water is available for human consumption on a daily basis. Access to adequate portable drinking water is considered to be a very critical prerequisite for improving health, however many countries including Ghana are faced with the plight of fetching from various water sources which could be contaminated. There is a vast backlog in the provision of portable water in small towns and rural areas partly accounting for the rise in disease outbreaks relating to water and sanitation issues.
World Vision Ghana's Board members in conjunction with Vision Fund embarked on a field visit to Nkwanta South Area Programme located in Oti Region to fulfill its mandate and commitment by providing access to portable drinking water to the most vulnerable children, their communities and families. The people of Nkwanta South were confronted with an overarching problem of having to walk miles in search of water from an unsafe source coupled with health implications as well as an adverse effect on education stemming from the lack of access to safe drinking water.
It is for this cause as part of World Vision's ministry to ensure that everyone has access to this basic need for survival thus, the need to install a mechanized water system for the community so that children can report to school regularly and on time for a smooth learning process. The intervention has been critical in preventing inhabitants from contracting water-borne diseases for a healthy life.
The National Director of World Vision Ghana, Mr. Dickens Thunde recounts his experience in interacting with community members on how the intervention has impacted their lives and also shared thoughts on how fulfilling the intervention has been for him.
Members of the Savings for transformational group, an initiative by World Vision Ghana to help increase the earnings and improve livelihoods of families, were able to channel proceeds made from the fund into scaling up start up businesses.
Through World Vision's work, every 60 seconds.....a family gets water, a hungry child is fed, a family receives the tools to overcome poverty and the impact is incredible.
