World Vision Launches Emergency Response Projects in Drought Affected Districts

World Vision launches Emergency Livelihood and Nutrition Response project for drought-affected communities in Amaro and Gorro districts, South Nations Nationalities Peoples Region and Oromia Region respectively on January 24, 2023 in Hawassa City.
Officially launching the project, Southeast Hub Leader, Mr. Assefa Eshete said, "currently, there is a critical need for livelihood and nutrition supply but World Vision is determined to address the the community in need with the limited resources." After conducting need assessment, World Vision decided to reach out to the most vulnerable communities in the two districts.
On launching event were the two district managers, government sector representatives, World Vision Ethiopia National Office HEA team, the Southeast Hub team, and the Amaro and Gorro Area Programs respective staffs.
Mr. Tadele Seifu, HEA Interim Director, and his team presented humanitarian and emergency affairs in general and the livelihood and nutrition integrated emergency response in particular. The integrated livelihood and nutrition response aimed at increasing availability of adequate nutritious food and provide timely access to life-saving quality treatment for acute malnutrition among children under the age of five as well as pregnant and lactating women.
The government representatives from both districts expressed their happiness with World Vision’s timely response and were very thankful. Mr. Aliyi Tusu, Gorro Dstrict Manager, praised World Vision's work and its partnership with the Gorro community and the local government. He says, "World Vision has always been responsive for such time as this. Kindness is not giving out in abundance but reaching out to the needy at the right time." Amaro District representative and Agricultural Bureau Manager Mr. Goshu Getachew says, "Amaro community considers World Vision as a family member because it has always felt our pain shared our burden. We are grateful for it."
Some $333,350 USD (17,867, 560 Birr) is allocated for implementation of the project in the two districts. World Vision US funded project is designed to benefit 25,500 community members through carrying out livelihood activities and 50,406 beneficiaries, of whom 33,356 are children, through executing nutritional interventions. Child-headed households and households with malnourished children under-five, and pregnant and lactating women are among the prioritized target groups. The project, which kicked off on January 24, 2023 will end on September 30, 2023.
