The Joining Forces Alliance for Children in Zambia has commended the Zambian government for launching the Guidelines on the Minimum Standards for Handling Children in Street Situations, a critical framework to improve case management for vulnerable children.

Speaking on behalf of the Joining Forces Alliance, Technical Chairperson Rebecca Chipoya, in an interview on ZNBC TV1 Main News on January 8, 2025, said the launch of these guidelines marks a significant milestone in safeguarding the rights and well-being of street-connected children in Zambia.

"This framework provides clear professional standards for case management and fosters collaboration among all stakeholders involved in child protection,” MS. Chipoya stated.

She emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging public members to stop giving alms to children on the streets and instead report cases to the relevant authorities.

“We all have a role to play in ensuring these children receive the support and opportunities they deserve,” she added.

She further highlighted the Joining Forces Alliance's commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the guidelines.

“Our role will be to interpret these standards and create awareness among implementers, ensuring alignment with government efforts to build a safer environment for children,” she said.

The alliance reaffirmed its dedication to complementing government initiatives and strengthening systems to protect society's most vulnerable members.
