From Sponsored Child to M&E Specialist: Maurice's Inspiring Journey
Maurice, a former World Vision-sponsored child, has come a long way from his humble beginnings in Gwembe District. His journey is a testament to the transformative power of education and the support of World Vision and its generous supporters. With a determined spirit and the encouraging support of his family and community, Maurice has turned challenges into opportunities, and today, he is making a significant impact as a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Specialist under the Empowering Vulnerable Children with Education (EVE) Project.
Maurice's journey began in 1993 when he became a World Vision Sponsored Child under the Luumbo Area Development Program. Reflecting on his early days, Maurice recalls, "Life was hard before I became a sponsored child, as it was not easy to access basic needs." The sponsorship program provided him with essential items like blankets and food and opened doors to education and a brighter future.
"World Vision played an important role in changing my life," Maurice emphasizes. "They provided most of the basic needs that we needed to achieve what we have achieved up to where I am now."
As he progressed through his education, World Vision continued to support him by providing school requisites, paying his school fees, and ensuring he had the resources he needed to succeed.
Maurice's dedication and hard work led him to excel academically. He shares, "After completing Grade 7, I went to secondary school. World Vision paid my school fees as well as groceries for use at school from Grade 8 to Grade 11." The support he received from World Vision pushed him forward, allowing him to pursue his dreams.
Today, Maurice is an M&E Specialist at World Vision Zambia, working on the Empowering Vulnerable Children with Education (EVE) Project. This project aims to increase the retention of 7000 at-risk children in quality primary education in Zambia by 2025. Maurice feels privileged to work for an organization that once supported him.
"I am a product and living testimony of a child living in all its fullness," he proudly states.
World Vision has touched my life, and I also want to work and contribute to the well-being of other vulnerable children in the community.
Maurice's plans for the future are clear: "My plan is to continue working hard and contribute to the vision of World Vision." His deep appreciation is deep as he expresses, "I want to thank World Vision for their work in Luumbo. Their work has benefited a lot of people and has transformed many lives. I want to encourage the organization to continue touching lives and helping the most vulnerable children. God will reward the organization more."
Maurice's journey from a sponsored child to an M&E Specialist is an inspiring human interest success story, showcasing the ripple effect of support, education, and determination.
His story is a testament to the impact organizations like World Vision can have on individual lives and entire communities. As Maurice continues to thrive and contribute to the well-being of vulnerable children, he serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for others to follow.
