World Vision Zambia recently hosted a meet-and-greet cocktail at Latitude 15 Degrees in Lusaka to support the global Strong Women Strong World (SWSW) initiative. The event, led by World Vision USA Chief Development Officer Kathryn Compton, brought together influential female leaders passionate about gender equality, the girl child, and women’s empowerment from various corporate entities and organizations in Zambia.

The goal of the event was for leaders to reflect on their commitments, achievements, and lessons learned in supporting women.

Honourable Minister of Justice, Madam Princess Kasune, graced the event and highlighted the importance of the SWSW initiative as a source of hope and empowerment for women and girls worldwide.

“Its focus on gender reconciliation and its mission to ensure equal value and rights for all genders in developing countries is a testament to the transformative power of unity and collaboration,” she said.

Madam Kasune noted that the meet-and-greet cocktail was an important opportunity for like-minded individuals to share ideas and collaborate to support the Strong Women Strong Zambia initiative. She also committed to ensuring that the legal system protects the rights of vulnerable women, boys, and girls.

“It is crucial that we provide comprehensive support services for survivors of abuse, including legal aid, counselling, and safety shelters,” she said. “Empowering women and girls through education and economic opportunities is key to breaking the cycle of abuse and poverty.”

World Vision Zambia Board Chairperson, Ms. Mabel Mung'omba, appreciated the guests who attended the event and encouraged them to continue their efforts to support vulnerable women and girls.

The cocktail event surpassed the typical social gathering, becoming a dynamic hub for purposeful dialogue and collaboration. Guests from diverse corporate entities, NGOs, and development agencies engaged in rich exchanges and explored innovative partnerships.

The evening offered a rare opportunity for these leaders to celebrate their shared achievements and forge new paths forward in their collective mission to uplift women and girls.

In 2012, World Vision’s Strong Women Strong World (SWSW) was established to equip and empower women philanthropists and advocates in mobilizing our collective power — in support of World Vision’s mission — to partner with families and communities worldwide, especially women and girls, in breaking the cycle of poverty.
