World Vision Zambia hands over Maternity Annex at Kawanda Health Post to the Zambian Government
In partnership with Golf Fore Africa, World Vision Zambia recently handed over a fully furnished maternity annex, incinerator and a Mechanized Water system to the Zambian Government at Kawanda Health Post in Manyinga District of North Western Province.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held at Kawanda Health Post in Manyinga, Senior Program Manager Ms. Betty Mbewe said World Vision Zambia's commitment to improving the wellbeing of vulnerable children.
“We believe this infrastructure will go a long way to improve the health status of pregnant women, lactating mothers and children under five, thereby reducing maternal and infant mortality rates and improving their indicators in Manyinga District and Zambia as a whole in line with the sustainable development Goals (SDGs) #3”, Mrs Mbewe said.
Ms. Mbewe said this transformational infrastructure would benefit over 4,384, was constructed at the cost of K1,600,000 ($85,944 US Dollar) on the construction of the maternity annex and incinerator, K250,000 ($13,428 US Dollars) on the medical equipment and K760,000 ($40,823 US Dollars) on the mechanized water system.
And North Western Province Minister Robert Lihefu said the facility is not only for the Government but also for the community and the benefit of the community of Kawanda and the whole Manyinga.
“This Health Infrastructure we are commissioning today will go a long way in the Provision of Health Care Services to our people. It will help mitigate the difficulties of travelling long distances to access maternal Health Care Services. Our mothers will no longer deliver in homes; our children will not miss Child Health Services such as immunizations and other Nutritional Services," Mr. Lihefu said.
Meanwhile, Joyce Soluchi, a community member of Kawanda expressed happiness and gratitude towards World Vision.
“Thank you, World Vision, for removing the shame of giving birth in environments that are not conducive because now all pregnant women have regained confidence because they know they will deliver in a proper and conducive environment," said Ms. Soluchi.
World Vision aims at ensuring that children and expectant mothers receive the best service through equipping and empowering health centres to serve the vulnerable well, allowing children to grow strong and healthy in communities free of sickness and full of promise, which is being done through increased investment in health infrastructure so that people have access to quality health care and the promotion of positive behaviours in all operational areas in Zambia.
