In the Chireya Operational Area in Gokwe, smiles lit up children's faces as World Vision Zimbabwe, with support from World Vision U.S through the Gift-in-Kind (GIK) programme, distributed 221 sleeping bags and 30 camping tents to sponsored children and their families.

For Tanaka, a young boy living with a disability, this day was especially meaningful. Holding his new sleeping bag tightly, he showed excitement. His mother, Priscilla, stood by with gratitude in her eyes.

"As a mother, I always worry about his comfort, especially on cold nights. Now, I know he will sleep warmly. Thank you, World Vision Zimbabwe, for thinking of our children," she said, her voice filled with emotion.

Many parents in the community were unfamiliar with how to use the sleeping bags and tents. That’s when Farai, a World Vision staff member, stepped forward. With calm and clarity, he demonstrated how to roll out the sleeping bags and set up the tents.

"These items were designed to bring comfort and safety. Once you see how easy they are to use, you'll be able to create a cosy and secure space for your children," Farai explained with a reassuring smile.

Parents listened attentively and engaged with enthusiasm, eager to make the most of the new items.

For Tanaka and many other children, these sleeping bags and tents meant more than warmth—they symbolised care, dignity, and hope.

Thanks to the Gift-in-Kind programme, families in Chireya now have practical resources to protect their children during cold nights and emergencies. But beyond the physical warmth, they’ve also received a powerful message: you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone.
