Building a Brighter Future: Muchineripi’s Passion for Literacy

By Leana Padera (Communications Intern)
Muchineripi Karubwa has always been passionate about the well-being of children. As a mother of three and a holder of a certificate in Early Childhood Development, she understands first-hand the importance of providing children with a strong foundation in literacy. Her dedication to education led her to volunteer at the Mutambatuvisi Reading Camp in the Rusambo Area Programme, where she has been helping children develop a love for reading and learning.
When the head of Katakura Secondary School invited her to help manage the reading camp, Muchineripi eagerly stepped up to the task. With the support of World Vision Zimbabwe and the local community, a safe and welcoming learning environment was created. The camp, equipped with a playground, books, toys, balls, and crayons, offers children a space not only to learn but also to play, explore, and grow.

Nyasha Joseph from World Vision highlights the importance of such initiatives:
"Reading camps ignite a love for learning, building literacy and confidence in every child. We believe that when a child is given a chance in education, they can thrive."
Muchineripi’s commitment, alongside the backing of World Vision Zimbabwe, has transformed the Mutambatuvisi Reading Camp into a place of hope and opportunity. The recent delivery of a trunk full of learning resources has further enhanced the experience for the children, making learning more engaging and enjoyable.
"The children love coming here," says Karubwa proudly. "These new resources have made a huge difference, helping them grasp concepts quickly and look forward to every session."

Currently, the Mutambatuvisi Reading Camp serves 58 children—27 girls and 33 boys—who attend every Saturday morning from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. The children take part in a variety of learning activities, including Bible stories, reading skills, children’s rights, and health lessons. This holistic approach ensures that, beyond literacy, they acquire valuable life skills that will benefit them well into the future.
Through continued support and dedication, the Mutambatuvisi Reading Camp is shaping future leaders, one book at a time.
