Tenda Banana Plantation: A Community-Driven Success Story Supported by World Vision Zimbabwe
Tenda Primary School in Gokwe, Zimbabwe, faced a challenge in 2020 when parents struggled to pay school fees for their children, causing many to be unable to attend. In response, the school established an income-generating project in the form of a banana plantation called Tenda Banana Plantation.
World Vision Zimbabwe supported the project by providing necessary inputs such as security fencing, seeds, fertilizers, and a piped water system at the school. The plantation is expected to yield 60 kilograms of bananas per plant and generate more than US$20,000 on their first harvest, with plans to expand and start additional projects.
The project is not only generating income for the school but also providing a valuable learning opportunity for the children, teaching them skills in agriculture and entrepreneurship. The success of Tenda Banana Plantation highlights the potential of community-driven development and income-generating projects to transform lives with the support of organizations like World Vision Zimbabwe.
