World Vision's cash assistance program supports 84,000 people in South Sudan
In partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), World Vision provides monthly cash assistance to 14,000 households or 84,000 people in South Sudan. Each household receives US$45 every month for six months to support their food requirements.
The participants also attend trainings such as home gardening, hygiene promotion, gender-based violence and child protection. At least 76 percent of the cash recipients are women.
When World Vision's Disaster Management Global Lead Justin Byworth underscored the importance of cash to support the families, many of the women resoundingly agreed with what he said. One woman said it gives them the freedom to use the money depending on the needs of their families.
It also provides them the opportunity to earn more by engaging in small businesses that can raise additional income for their children's needs.
