World Vision Ethiopia
World Vision Ethiopia began its first intervention in Ethiopia in 1971 with relief and opened the Ethiopia office in 1975. Relief, rehabilitation, and small community development projects dominated the decade that followed. During the 1984/85 drought, World Vision Ethiopia participated in a massive relief operation that saved the lives of millions of people.
Starting its operation with emergency intervention in some parts of Ethiopia, World Vision currently operates in 48 Area Programs (APs) implementing effective programmes, such as Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Integrated Livelihoods and Nutrition Security (ILaNS), Child Protection and Participation (CPP), Education and Life Skills (EdLS), Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs (HEA), Community Engagement and Sponsorship Plan (CESP) as well as grants projects.

Our Areas of Focus
Child Protection
Child Protection and Participation aims to create a safe environment for children, women, and people with disabilities.
We work to prevent and respond to child abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence, and provide mental health and psycho-social support to survivors.
Education
World Vision Ethiopia’s contribution to education reached and benefited over 4.9 million children.
We undertook extensive investment primarily focusing on constructing elementary and secondary schools, providing school materials to vulnerable children and training school teachers.
Through models like Early Childhood Development, Unlock Literacy, and Basic Education School Improvement Programme.
Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs
Ethiopia is amongst the developing countries most vulnerable to natural and manmade disasters.
Conflict, locust invasion, climate shocks, and COVID-19 impact are the main causes of humanitarian needs in Ethiopia.
We help children have a good life by providing emergency water, healthcare, education, protection, food, jobs, and shelter.
We are helping with four declared emergencies in 12 regions of Ethiopia, following World Vision's disaster management standards.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
World Vision started its WASH Program in its early days in Ethiopia.
World Vision's plan for 2021-2025 is to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for everyone. Every child should have clean water and live in a clean and hygienic place.
World Vision's WASH program provides clean water, sanitation, and hygiene in 49 areas for communities and institutions. We provided new water systems to communities and schools. We also assisted with hygiene during menstruation.
Livelihood and Resilience
The ILaNS TP aims to address food and nutrition insecurity in the community.
It does this by combining programs such as Resilient Agriculture, Economic Development, and Integrated Nutrition. ILaNS TP aims to assist families and communities in World Vision Ethiopia with food and nutrition problems.
ILaNS aims to improve resilience capacity within World Vision Ethiopia operation areas by addressing the causal factors. To achieve this, we will increase the availability of healthy food, help individuals increase their income to afford healthy food and healthcare, ensure that young children and pregnant or breastfeeding women have access to healthy food and promote better eating habits within the community.
