Child well-being agency bettered the lives of 1.5 million girls and boys across Cambodia in 2023
Following the celebration of International Children’s Day on the 1st of June, World Vision International in Cambodia, a child well-being agency operating in twenty provinces and urban Phnom Penh, released its annual impact report for the year 2023.
In partnership with the Royal Government of Cambodia, international development partners, civil society organisations and private sectors, the child-focused organisation impacted the lives of more than 3.2 million people in Cambodia, including 1.5 million children, providing access to clean water, inclusive education, improved nutrition and accessible health care services, among others.
Key achievements in 2023 include:
- 79,500 children receiving nutritious breakfast meals through the School Feeding Programme, contributing to higher school attendance and lower dropout rates;
- 78,400 people gaining access to clean water, with 43 new water collection points installed;
- 13,170 children and adolescents trained on protection-related life skills and 29,502 community members participating in behaviour change sessions on child protection issues;
- 4,040 farmers working collaboratively in 28 climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive agriculture cooperatives, and 187 Small/Middle Enterprises supported to access loans amounting to $5,258,084;
- 2,150 disaster-affected families received aid through World Vision’s flood response initiatives.
In 2023, World Vision deepened its contribution to the Royal Government of Cambodia’s national objectives and made significant strides towards sustainable development goals. Among the key initiatives building brighter futures for Cambodia’s population, the Implementation of the Social Accountability Framework (ISAF) helped over 1 million citizens identify gaps in the quality of social services and develop action plans to address them. The aid agency subsequently worked with the Royal Government of Cambodia to develop Prakas No214 on the Code of Conduct of the Social Workforce 2023, strengthening the ethics, dignity, effectiveness, and quality of the social workforce and any social service workers in Cambodia, and Prakas No233 on the Code of Conduct for Child Protection 2023, establishing a code of conduct to prevent, eliminate, and respond to all types of child abuse and protects the rights, safety, wellbeing, and dignity of all children.
These significant contributions to Cambodian society, from community to national level, are part of the broader strategy of the INGO, aiming to impact 5 million girls and boys in Cambodia by 2027, with a key priority to promote adaptation and mitigation strategies to address the impacts of climate change.
Janes Imanuel Ginting, Country Director of World Vision International in Cambodia, expressed his appreciation, and call for increased collaboration “Together, let us be a force for positive change, ensuring a brighter and more inclusive future for all children and communities in Cambodia. The collective effort of our partners and supporters continues to make a profound impact, and we are committed to furthering our mission with renewed enthusiasm and dedication.”
