World Vision International Lesotho, through the support of the European Union, Launches the "Accelerating Action for Eliminating Child Labour and Forced Labour " Project

For Immediate Release

Maseru, Lesotho - World Vision International Lesotho (WVIL), in partnership with the European Union and the Government of Lesotho, proudly announces the launch of the Accelerating Action for Eliminating Child Labour and Forced Labour (AECFL) Project. This transformative initiative, generously funded by the European Union, aims to address the critical issues of child labour, forced labour, and human trafficking in Lesotho. The official launch will take place on Wednesday, 25th September 2024, at Avani Lesotho, Maseru.

Since 1987, WVIL has been a leading advocate for child well-being in Lesotho, working closely with government ministries, civil society organizations, and community stakeholders to tackle pressing challenges in Lesotho. The AECFL Project is an ambitious endeavor aimed at strengthening national efforts against child exploitation, with a focus on creating sustainable systemic change.

The Accelerating Action for Eliminating Child Labour and Forced Labour Project seeks to:

  • Raise Awareness: Increase public understanding of child labour and forced labour issues.

  • Empower Communities: Mobilize local communities to take action against exploitation.

  • Strengthen Legal Frameworks: Enhance the enforcement of laws protecting children.

The partnership with the European Union underscores the significance of global collaboration in addressing these critical issues. Their support amplifies the impact of our efforts, contributing to a safer environment where children are protected from exploitation.

The launch event will bring together key partners from various sectors, including government officials, community leaders and faith leaders, civil society organizations, and international agencies and the media highlighting the role of cross-sectoral partnerships in combating child labour and forced labour towards establishing comprehensive protection mechanisms that uphold children’s rights across Lesotho.

This platform will feature child advocates sharing their stories about the realities of child labour and forced labour in Lesotho, serving as powerful testimonies that call for collective action.

We invite all stakeholders, partners, and the public to join us at the official launch as we unite to protect Lesotho's children from the dangers of child labour and forced labour, and to build a brighter, safer future for the next generation.
