Haiti Earthquake Emergency Response
Tuesday, September 10, 2024

Following the devastating earthquake of August 14, 2021, in Southern Haiti, World Vision Haiti (WVIH) has supported more than 155,000 individuals, focusing on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), food, shelter, health, and child protection needs. Leveraging private funding, grants, emergency supplies, and Gift In Kinds (GIK), World Vision reached the most vulnerable families in Nippes, specifically in Baradères, Petit Trou, and l'Asile, areas often overlooked by other aid efforts.

World Vision implemented a rigorous selection process in coordination with local authorities to ensure fair distribution. To register and support beneficiaries, it utilized mobile data collection and the Last Mile Mobile Solutions (LMMS) system. Community engagement, transparency, and feedback mechanisms were key components of the response, with field teams mobilizing volunteers and ensuring community involvement.

Despite these efforts, the situation in Haiti remains critical. According to the UN, over 610,000 people were in acute humanitarian need before the earthquake, with 350,000 facing catastrophic levels of vulnerability. World Vision calls on international partners, the Haitian government, and civil society in this challenging context to protect children's rights and alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

World Vision expresses gratitude to all staff, donors, partners, and communities contributing to the response efforts. As its earthquake response program concludes, the organization urges continued collaboration to protect Haiti's most vulnerable populations.
