American World Vision sponsors visit Lour Escale and Ribot Escale - World Vision Senegal
It was an emotional meeting between sponsors and their goddaughters. Organised by the World Vision Koungheul office team on 29 January, it was an opportunity to share with local authorities the progress made and the challenges ahead to help the children of these communities.
Gratitude
The sponsors had the opportunity to meet their six goddaughters, all of whom are part of communities involved in World Vision programmes.
The municipal authorities in both communities praised the commitment of World Vision and its partners to improving the lives of children and communities. The visit, the first of its kind in this World Vision US-funded programme area, was greatly appreciated by all involved.
Upon their return, the sponsors pledged to advocate for World Vision's programmes and encourage sponsorship of new children. Discussions also focused on the importance of community involvement in World Vision activities. The aim is to strengthen local participation in order to ensure the sustainability of the actions undertaken.
Challenges for a better future
A number of priority challenges remain in the health and education sectors. These include
- Improving health services, particularly by upgrading medical equipment for better patient care and bringing health facilities up to standard.
- Access to drinking water, a fundamental issue for the health and well-being of the population.
- Strengthening education by improving school infrastructure and providing access to adequate supplies.
For members of the Presbyterian congregation in Colombia (USA), this experience in Senegal will be shared with their American counterparts to strengthen their commitment to World Vision's initiatives.
