Cyclone Chido: Humanitarian Aid Renews Hope in Cabo Delgado
World Vision Mozambique initiated the distribution of shelter and kitchen kits to help rebuild homes and restore the lives of 120 people affected by Cyclone Chido in Metuge district, Cabo Delgado province.
The support has been allocated to community members facing multiple impacts, including forced displacement due to the conflict in some districts of Cabo Delgado, food shortages caused by the El Nino phenomenon, and recent damage caused by the intense tropical cyclone Chido.
The kits include fundamental items such as hoes, shovels, buckets, plates, spoons, and water storage containers, providing basic resources for families to start the recovery process.
Nelcia is among the first group to benefit from the support and says that the help represents a new beginning: "These kits will help me restart my life. It's not easy, but this gesture gives us strength and hope to move forward."
The action reaffirms the commitment to the most vulnerable communities, providing immediate relief and an impetus for rebuilding their lives and dignity in the midst of adversity.
World Vision's support will benefit around 250 families at this stage, while additional support is mobilised to assist around 100,000 people in the provinces of Cabo Delgado and Nampula.
The cyclone caused the death of at least 120 people, injured more than 868 and affected more 687 000 people.
