Mozambique: World Vision Ramps Up Aid in Nampula After Cyclone Jude
World Vision has intensified its emergency response efforts in Nampula Province, Mozambique, following Cyclone Jude. Building on its work after Cyclones Chido and Dikeledi, the organisation focuses on two key areas: child protection and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
World Vision aims to assist over 2,500 children, caregivers, and families in Memba and Erati districts in child protection. With a budget of $175,000, to be implemented between March and May 2025, initiatives include case management, support for survivors of violence and abuse, establishment of Child-Friendly Spaces, training for social workers, and strengthening local child protection systems. There is also a focus on reducing risks related to gender-based violence and other forms of exploitation.
For WASH, in collaboration with UNICEF, World Vision is implementing a $345,000 and five-month project to support around 24,000 people across Monapo, Nacala, Mossuril, and Ilha de Moçambique (Mozambican Island). Activities include water transportation and infrastructure repairs, construction of emergency sanitation facilities, and distribution of essential WASH materials.
World Vision remains committed to supporting vulnerable communities in Nampula, addressing immediate needs while enhancing local systems for long-term recovery. It continues to monitor the situation, working closely with local authorities and humanitarian partners.
While early assistance is provided to respond to immediate needs, World Vision requires additional support to respond in the sectors of Food Security, Livelihood, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Protection, Education, Health, and nutrition.
