World Vision Supports Displaced Families from Tadamon Locality
In December 2024, Damazine, the capital city of the Blue Nile region, witnessed the arrival of a large number of internally displaced people (IDPs) from Tadamon locality, situated in the western part of the region. This displacement was triggered by armed clashes that erupted in Tadamon, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, including deaths and injuries. The influx of IDPs has placed immense pressure on Damazine, which had already been hosting thousands of displaced individuals who fled earlier conflicts in Khartoum, Gezira, and Sennar regions during 2023 and 2024. This unprecedented wave of displacement has strained the city’s sanitation and healthcare systems, raising concerns about the potential spread of epidemics and the deterioration of public health conditions. In response to this humanitarian crisis, World Vision Sudan’s Blue Nile office, with the support of the Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF) and World Vision Australia, provided critical assistance to 350 IDP households in Damazine in January 2025. The support focused on improving hygiene conditions among vulnerable families, particularly children, to help prevent the outbreak of diseases in the overcrowded shelters. World Vision distributed essential hygiene kits containing jerrycans for water storage, soap, buckets, and potties designed for children under five. Recognising the specific needs of women and girls, the organisation also provided thobes, a traditional Sudanese garment, offering both comfort and dignity during displacement.
Fatima Adam Suleiman, a 43-year-old mother of five, shared her heartfelt gratitude for the support she received.
“We arrived from Tadamon to Damazine with nothing but the clothes on our backs. We had no money to buy soap, no containers to store water. Now, thanks to World Vision, I can fetch and store water in the two jerkins provided. They also gifted me a beautiful thobe, which I wear and use to cover my two younger children at night,” Fatima explained.
She and her family currently reside at Bint Wahab Primary School, where the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) has established a reception centre for IDPs from Tadamon.
World Vision remains committed to supporting displaced families, providing life saving assistance, and advocating for the well being of vulnerable communities affected by conflict and displacement in Sudan.
