Pilot Programme on Baby-Friendly Health Centres (BFHCs) in eight health centres of Siem Reap Province to improve breastfeeding rate and children’s well-being

In close coordination with National Maternal Child Health Centre (NMCHC) and the National Nutrition Programme, World Vision International (WVI) in Cambodia launches the “Pilot Programme on Baby-Friendly Health Centre” on November 29, 2022, at Empress Hotel, Siem Reap Province.   

The one-year Pilot Programme intends to improve the breastfeeding rate and children's well-being by promoting the 8 Health Centres as Baby-Friendly Health Centre-aligned with the Operational Guidelines for Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiatives launched by the Ministry of Health on September 2022. Within these Health Centres, WVI in Cambodia will also improves the identification, referral and follow-up of children with acute malnutrition, contributing to the Global Action Plan on Child Wasting (acute malnutrition) by the United Nations Cambodia (2021) and the recently launched Interim Guidelines for Growth Monitoring and Promotion by the Ministry of Health.  

This pilot initiative will benefit children under 5 years with acute malnutrition in these areas. Thus, through the promotion of the Baby-Friendly Health Centre programme, more than 3000 pregnant women and 2000 newborn children will be impacted. The project will improve the quality of services in 8 Health Centres in Pouk and Varin Districts and the Angkor Chum- Referral Hospital of Siem Reap province.
