World Vision’s Andrew Morley welcomes UN Security Council Resolution, calls for a “global movement to establish peace and goodwill”

E premte, December 22, 2023

London - Reverend Andrew Morley, World Vision International President and Chief Executive Officer, has welcomed the passing of UN Security Council Resolution 2720 and expressed his hope that, as billions celebrate Christmas, that it will usher in a “global movement to establish peace and goodwill”.

Reverend Morley says:

“As a Christian development and humanitarian organisation committed to improving the lives of children, World Vision is heartened by the UN Security Council’s decision to pass Resolution 2720. It demonstrates there is a strong global agreement the suffering of the children affected by this crisis should stop, as record levels of death, hunger and suffering are being seen in the Middle East.

“As many of us begin to celebrate Christmas, we pray that this resolution leads to decisive actions to permit safe, unhindered, and expanded humanitarian access that the children of Gaza need now. We further hope that global leadership prioritises the conditions for a cessation of hostilities, for the safety of all children and for a sustained peace in the region.

“Due to violence and tensions, thousands of pregnant women in the region are unsure where they are going to give birth, and they may not have access to suitable healthcare facilities. 2,000 years ago, the most wonderful, miraculous gift entered this world in Bethlehem. I pray that, like then, this Christmas we start a new chapter. A new era where peace reigns, and hunger, violence, and hatred end forever.

“My heart breaks for everyone in the region who is suffering. My thoughts and prayers are with them all, this Christmas.”

World Vision is currently supporting vulnerable children across the Middle East by responding to urgent family needs, creating safe spaces, and providing psychological services. They are also responding in 100 countries across the world, many where displaced children will need help and hope this Christmas.
