10 Empowered Through Vocational Training at Mkhiweni
Graduation season is indeed upon us!
The youth face so many barriers in their journey to success and oftentimes, the main cause is lack of skills needed in the labour market. Aiming to improve the employability of young people, World Vision Eswatini, through its Livelihood Technical Programme, joined hands with Sebenta National Institute to cultivate their livelihoods and life skills by enrolling them in technical and vocational training establishments.
On 22 December 2023,10 women from the Mkhiweni community finally underwent their sewing certification process after being enrolled for a 6-month vocational skills training programme.
“I know, through my sewing skills, I will be able to provide for some of my basic needs. I will also be able to have more than one stream of income”, Nompumelelo, one of the graduates from Emoyeni stated.
Nompumelo also stated that she has big plans for herself using the skills she obtained through this training.
"I want to start my own sewing business in my community as soon as I acquire a sewing machine. I want to sew school uniforms for the children in my area" she said.
These 10 women held their classes at Ekutsim'leni Primary School and their lessons were fully funded by World Vision Eswatini.
Hats-off to you graduates, best of luck on your new beginnings!
